Local Area Information

There's nothing like a dog or horse friendly beach. The look of joy on their face as they tear off across the sand toward the sea, is worth travelling anywhere for!

Of course, you don't have to travel anywhere and can stay at home, as we have 3.5 acres of stock fenced paddocks and open wildflower meadow for them to roam at The Old Workhouse Paddocks. But if you do fancy getting out and about, we've got a number of dog (and horse) friendly beaches and wonderful walks right here in beautiful Norfolk

Heacham South

Heacham South is a easy walking, with a number of lovely dunes. Heacham North is also worth looking at…the beach is just as nice, but because there's a promenade, dogs need to be under control/on leads.

Wells-next-the-Sea & Holkham

Another lovely beach & wonderful woods for walks. A picture perfect beach with a pinewood backdrop and a fantastic array of colourful beach huts along the way.

You are welcome to take dogs off the lead on the beach anywhere beyond the beach huts.  You can walk all the way to Holkham along the beach and head back through the pinewood trails behind.

Holkham

Holkham has a huge, flat beach where your dogs (and horses) can run for miles! Give your dog the chance to run around on one of  the "UK's best beaches".

Snettisham beach

In the main, it's a shingle beach, but there is a grassier area on the other side of the dunes and at low tide the beach itself becomes more like wet sand, making it more 'walk-friendly'.

Old Hunstanton

Is a lovely beach with miles and miles of open space, ideal for the long run!

Thornham beach

Is great for a good long walk, it takes about 15 mins to get there across the beautiful saltmarsh and then it is a fantastic sandy beach with very few people around

Brancaster

One of North Norfolk's most enjoyable beaches, the stretches of unspoiled sand absolutely perfect for four-legged friends!

West and East Runton

Are ideal for dogs. They're also very popular with archaeology fans

Mundesley and Overstrand

Both of which are dog-friendly once past their promenade.

Walcott & Happisburgh (pronounced Hays-borough)

Unspoilt beaches, with failing cliffs, and a traditional lighthouse

Waxham & Horsey Gap

Two of the best places to see the seals in breeding season. With the wonderful Horsey Windpump just around the corner

Winterton beach

Time it right and you wont see a single other soul on the beach…..perfect!

The Norfolk Coast Path

Over 70 miles of Norfolk coastal path to walk

West Runton and Beeston Regis Heath

Woods, heath and the best coastal views

Sheringham Park

Landscape park and woodland garden with miles and miles of stunning coastal views

Peddars Way

There are a number of paths, from shorter walks up to longer treks: more than enough for the fittest pooch!

Seal Trips on the sea

Dogs are more than welcome on the seal trip boats that head out to the Blakeney Point area, and this is a must visit day out for you too: especially in November and December, when the seal pups are around.

Marriotts Way

Marriott’s Way is a 26 mile footpath, bridleway and cycle route, which follows the routes of two disused railway lines, and runs between the historic market town of Aylsham and the mediaeval city of Norwich.

You can take an extended walk from the market town of Reepham, just 3 miles from The Old Workhouse Paddocks

Country Fairs and Festivals

Though they're only on at certain points throughout the year, Norfolk hosts a number of shows & events that are perfect for dogs, including the Holkham Country Fair, Sandringham Game & Country Fair and the Deepdale Outdoor & Wildlife Festival.
